Fire Risk Assessment

First a fire risk assessment is a legal requirement, if you have not done one already then it is something that you need to do. However a fire risk assessment benefits your business considerably in that Home Office figures tell us that 70% of businesses that suffer a major fire do not re open. After a serious fire your customer base is by necessity compelled to find an alternative supplier.

If you have not yet carried out a Fire Risk Assessment now is the time to act. There are basically three options open to you.

1. Fire Risk Assessment consultancy - Most suitable where companies do not employ a person designated as H&S manager or fire safety representative or other member of staff that would be considered competent to carry out a Fire Risk Assessment on your behalf. Should you decide on the expertise of the consultancy route then CFS Ltd would be delighted to take that responsibility on board for you.

2. Fire Risk Assessment Books and Pamphlets - If you decide to carry out your own Fire Risk Assessment there are a number of publications that take you step by step through the considerations that you must deliberate when carrying out your Fire Risk Assessment the being the most widely recognised and of course totally independent.

3. Fire Risk Assessment online - There are several online guides that can help you to create your Fire Risk Assessment.

One of the findings of your Fire Risk Assessment will be an appropriate response to the risks that you identify in addition to the requirements of BS5306, BS5839 and BS5266. CFS Ltd are able to provide free site surveys and quotations in this regard, for further details.

Installation of appropriate fire extinguishing equipment

Fire extinguishers are a first aid fire fighting appliance; you would not put a sticking plaster on a gaping wound just as you would not tackle a raging inferno with a fire extinguisher. Fire extinguishers are worth their weight in gold when used as intended, to extinguish a fire in its developing stages. When a fire extinguisher is used in these circumstances small fires do not get the chance to become big fires causing disruption to business or worse. Of course for an extinguisher to be used safely it must be installed in the right locations CFS Ltd can provide a free survey and quotation ensuring you have the correct numbers and types of extinguishers in the right locations. for further details.
